This branch of West Coast chain Nick the Greek opened last month under the personal supervision of cofounder Nick Tsigaris himself, a local news site reported. The Ceres Gateway location is the brand’s first in California with a drive-through lane. The Tsigaris family has been busy this year with “Big Nick”—one of the three Nicknamed cousins behind Nick the Greek—attending about 30 openings this year alone.

Tréla (τρέλα) translates as “madness” or “craziness,” this restaurant’s site explains. For brothers Napoleon and Anthony Tzakis, who opened Tréla in December, that passion extends to locally sourced ingredients, family recipes, and Greek-inspired drinks like an Old-Fashioned made with Metaxa and orange bitters. The food menu skews traditional, including spanakopita, saganaki, and lahanodolmathes.

Owned by John and Amanda Polistopoulos and their family, this fast-casual restaurant opened a new location just before New Year’s. The restaurant started as a ghost kitchen in nearby Harrisburg four years ago. The Polistopoulos family operates two other locations in Hershey, Harrisburg, and a food truck which stopped in town last year for the York State Fair. John’s parents, Chris and Anna Polistopoulos, immigrated to the U.S. from the Peloponnese.

In December, Maryland’s Big Greek Café announced it will take over all four restaurants in Virginia’s SouvlakiBar chain. According to an online announcement, “The Big Greek Café will offer our customers a more extensive selection of Greek dishes cooked and prepared just like Yia Yia used to make!” SouvlakiBar stores shuttered on December 21, and each is coming back online with a rebrand as Big Greek Café.

Brothers Ebram and Kirollos Botros, and friend David Bassilly, are the franchisees behind Columbus’s first branch of this global bakery/café concept. The Botros brothers are scions of the family behind Columbus eatery Crazzy Greek. “We are beyond excited to bring Paris Baguette just down the street from our family restaurant, Crazzy Greek, which has been a local staple for 18 years,” Ebram Botros said in a press release. Paris Baguette is planning to reach 1,000 bakery cafés in the United States by 2030.
