NEW YORK, NY— The Archdiocesan Cathedral Philoptochos will welcome International Bestselling Author Yvette Manessis Corporon for a book talk and signing of her latest historical novel, Daughter of Ruins, at Chiotes Hall on Thursday, March 13, 2025. Author Eleni N. Gage will moderate the discussion.

A New York Native, Manessis Corporon will discuss her latest novel, Daughter of Ruins (Harper Muse, October 2024). Her other books include Where the Wandering Ends (Harper Muse, 2022), Something Beautiful Happened (Howard, 2017), and When the Cypress Whispers (Harper, 2014). To date, her books have been translated into 16 languages. The daughter of Greek immigrants, she studied Journalism and Classical Civilizations at NYU and loves combining both her passions and crafting stories from little known moments in history and mythology.

The author is also a three-time Emmy Award-winning journalist who has traveled the world covering the biggest stories in news and entertainment. She is currently a Senior Supervising Producer with EXTRA. She is also a recipient of the Silurian Award for Excellence in Journalism and the New York City Comptroller and City Council’s Award for Greek Heritage and Culture.

Set in Corfu and Kefalonia, Greece and partially in America, Daughter of Ruins is a powerful tale of three determined and strong women in 20th century Greece. Whether you are a fan of historical fiction, mythology, or simply enjoy a compelling story of female empowerment, the book which was a recent Oprah Daily pick, is a must-read.

“There are few things that make me happier than sharing my love of Greek culture, history, and mythology with our community,” said Manessis Corporon. “I am so excited to bring Daughter of Ruins to the Cathedral community for what promises to be a warm and lively discussion of the themes and stories that bind us.”

Eleni N. Gage will moderate the discussion. She has spent her life writing about family, fate, and folklore. After earning a degree in Folklore and Mythology from Harvard University, she worked on staff at People and O, the Oprah Magazine, and currently is a freelance writer contributing to most major travel magazines. Based in New York, she is also the author of the travel memoir North of Ithaka (St. Martin’s Griffin, 2006); the novels Other Waters (St. Martin’s Griffin 2012) and The Ladies of Managua (St. Martin’s, 2016); the gift book Lucky in Love: Traditions, Customs, & Rituals to Personalize Your Wedding (Clarkson Potter, 2018); and the children’s ebook Wiggly Tooth (Madeleine Editions, 2020).

“Yvette’s stories are profound, uplifting, and passionate. I can’t wait to chat about life, love, literature, and Greece—all my favorite things!” said Gage.

The Archdiocesan Cathedral Philoptochos is the philanthropic arm of the Greek Orthodox Archdiocesan Cathedral of the Holy Trinity. Their mission supports humanitarian efforts that embody both Christian and Greek ideals of philanthropy.

“We’re looking forward to welcoming Yvette and Eleni for an engaging discussion, perfect for Women’s History Month. We hope you’ll join us,” said Madelene Lambiris, Philoptochos president.

The event begins at 6:30 pm. Following the discussion, Manessis Corporon will read from the book and sign copies.
