Supreme President Savas C. Tsivicos is currently leading the annual AHEPA Family Overseas Leadership Excursion, a multi-country diplomatic and cultural mission that underscores the organization’s commitment to strengthening ties between the United States and nations of strategic and historic significance to the Greek American community.
The excursion, which began on April 12, 2025, includes visits to Greece, the Ecumenical Patriarchate in Istanbul, and Israel. Supreme President Tsivicos is joined by Past Supreme President and Board Chairman Nicholas Karacostas, Executive Director Basil Mossaidis, and members of the AHEPA Supreme Lodge.
The delegation’s first stop was the island of Crete, where President Tsivicos visited Knossos and welcomed a bipartisan Congressional delegation to the Souda Bay Naval Airbase. In total, 28 members of the U.S. Congress and one U.S. senator are participating in this historic visit, highlighting the critical role Greece plays as a key ally and strategic partner on defense and security issues in the Eastern Mediterranean. The group was officially received by the Hellenic Air Force’s 115th Fighter Wing in Chania.
On April 17, AHEPA will host a dinner in Athens for the visiting members of Congress. From there, the delegation will travel to Istanbul, where Supreme President Tsivicos will be granted an audience with His All-Holiness Ecumenical Patriarch Bartholomew on Holy Saturday and attend Easter Sunday services at the Ecumenical Patriarchate.
The final leg of the excursion will bring the delegation to Israel, April 21–24, with planned meetings with government officials and participation in a remembrance event at Yad Vashem – The World Holocaust Remembrance Center, hosted by Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu.
Through this annual initiative, AHEPA continues to foster meaningful dialogue and deepen relationships between the United States and the international Greek and Orthodox communities, championing shared values of democracy, religious freedom, and cultural heritage.
