Agora Is Cute and Blue

AN AREA that in past years traditional Greek restaurateurs shunned was that around Queens Boulevard from Maspeth on up, yet today we find Agora Taverna (70-09 Austin Street, Forest Hills, NY 11375; 718-793-7300), a cute little blue establishment with brown wood highlights. We even read a quote by someone who said that “Forest Hills has a solid lineup of Greek restaurants, which means there’s no overwhelming need to trek to Astoria for it.” This had to have happened in recent years, as Greek families moved to this area that was formerly unfamiliar to them and restaurateurs began exploring the possibilities of Greek establishments there.

There is a lot of outdoor seating in the summertime, but even if you sit indoors you get the feeling of the outdoors without the wind, according to the guests.

Highlights on the dinner menu are whitings (whole) fried or grilled, rainbow trout broiled with extra virgin olive oil, lemon and oregano, sardines (whole) fried or grilled, drizzled with red wine vinaigrette, barbounia (whole) fried, red mullets, and wild red snapper.
