WASHINGTON – On Thursday, October 3rd, 2024, the American Hellenic Institute and Enterprise Greece hosted the virtual presentation “Explore Greece: Land of Investment Opportunity” to promote the mutual benefits of U.S. investment in Greece.
AHI President Nick Larigakis opened the forum and provided remarks on recent developments in the economy of Greece that increased its potential for U.S. investment. This included achieving an economic growth rate above the EU average and implementing reforms that have increased FDI interest.
The forum was moderated by Dr. George Tsetsekos, Francis Professor and Dean Emeritus of Drexel University’s LeBow College of Business and AHI Board Member. Panelists included Hilda Alisandratou, Enterprise Greece Director of Investment Promotion Tourism, Real Estate and Creative Industries; Elias Eliades, Enterprise Greece Director of Investment Promotion Industry, Logistics, Technology and Innovation; and for the case study, Michalis Kassimiotis, CEO HP Enterprise Hellas. The forum also featured remarks from the Ambassador of Greece to the U.S. Ekaterini Nassika.
During the forum, Larigakis highlighted the 2024 U.S. Department of State report on the investment climate in Greece, which described favorable conditions and provided examples of the strength of Greece’s economy.
“Now more than ever, there is massive potential for U.S. investment in Greece. In turn, future investment will provide mutual economic benefits to both countries and further strengthen the bilateral relationship between the United States and Greece” stated President Larigakis.
George Tsetsekos, PhD, Francis Professor of Finance & Dean Emeritus of Drexel University’s LeBow College of Business, stated “The webinar was not only informative and timely but also offered practical insights into foreign direct investments (FDIs) and the key drivers behind Greece’s investment appeal. What surprised me the most was the significant increase in investment flows into Greece, which have risen by at least 10% compared to last year. Additionally, US-Greece bilateral trade is on track to surpass $4 billion, highlighting the strength of its economy. Greece has truly turned a corner, with a supportive institutional framework that is highly conducive to attracting foreign capital. I was pleased to moderate the discussion with experts who have first hand experience in facilitating and implementing investments in Greece.”
