THE PARTHENON (314 S. Halsted Street, Chicago, IL.; 3127263407) is proud of all the media attention it has received during its decades in business, including features and glowing reviews in key publications from coast to coast. Newspapers, magazines, radio, and television have awarded The Parthenon “Best Gyros,” “Best Saganaki,” “Pick of the Week,” and “Best Greek Restaurant.” It is unquestionably one of Chicago’s most popular spots as well as the city’s oldest fullservice, classic Greek restaurant. Its success story is fascinating, and its menu as complicated and vast. Chris Liakouras, its owner, is an informal goodwill ambassador for GreekAmericans in Chicago.
There’s a good reason they call this restaurant The Parthenon. To Greeks, The Parthenon stands for one of our highest achievements—those aweinspiring ancient structures atop the majestic Acropolis of Athens. They make sure they reach for high achievements here, too with the freshest ingredients, exciting new menu creations from an awardwinning chef, and an atmosphere that’s as fun as a Plaka taverna at sunset. They popularized gyros in America and invented flaming saganaki with the cry of “Opa!”
After having, however, inspection problems the Parthenon closed in March until it reopened three months ago after undergoing final inspection. Parthenon serves lunch, dinner, coffee and drinks and is open seven days.
