WELL aware that we will upset both sides, it is with great disappointment that we are running in this issue a collection of statements, facts, and events relating to the two major U.S. presidential candidates, which will affirm the dangerous downward spiral in this nation’s public life and the dangers of strife.

The election season is proceeding, unfortunately, amidst a backdrop of sharp conflict and mudslinging that is undermining democracy. The mutual accusations, labeling, slanderous attacks, distortion of facts, flip-flopping, stupidities, foolishness, vulgarities, demagoguery, sophistry, and conspiracy theories are making the people fanatical. This is the worst election season in memory.

Presidential elections were always intense and overdrawn, but they never featured the emotion and fanaticism of the current one. Hillary Clinton and Donald Trump were not the best choice for either party. They lack support—approximately 45 percent of their own party members don’t trust them. The citizens will vote based not on who is the best candidate, but rather who is the lesser of two evils and…the least dangerous.

Under these circumstances, as we have already stated, we will not be endorsing a candidate, because we don’t like either one.

 

Ούτε την Mια ούτε τον άλλον!

ΜΕ επίγνωση ότι θα δυσαρεστήσουµε και τις δυο πλευρές παρουσιάζουµε µε βαθιά απογοήτευση σ’ αυτό το τεύχος, µια συλλογή δηλώσεων, στοιχείων και γεγονότων που αφορούν τους δύο κύριους υποψηφίους για την προεδρία των ΗΠΑ. Αυτά βεβαιώνουν ένα επικίνδυνο κατήφορο της δηµόσιας ζωής και τους κινδύνους διαίρεσης σ’ αυτή τη χώρα.

Η προεκλογική περίοδος µπήκε, δυστυχώς, σε µια φάση οξύτατης αντιπαράθεσης και λάσπης που υπονοµεύουν την δηµοκρατία. Οι αλληλοκατηγορίες, οι χαρακτηρισµοί, οι υβριστικές επιθέσεις, η διαστρέβλωση γεγονότων, οι παλλινωδίες, οι βλακείες, οι ανοησίες, οι τερατολογίες, οι σοφιστείες και οι συνοµωτικές θεωρίες φανατίζουν τον λαό. Πρόκειται για την χειρότερη προεκλογική περίοδο που θυµόµαστε.

Οι προεδρικές εκλογές είχαν πάντοτε ένταση και υπερβολές, αλλά όχι το πάθος και τον φανατισµό αυτής που διανύουµε τώρα.

Η Χίλαρη Κλίντον και ο Ντόναλντ Τραµπ δεν είναι οι καλύτερες επιλογές των δύο κοµµάτων. Δεν υποστηρίζονται, δεν τους εµπιστεύεται το 45% περίπου των ψηφοφόρων των κοµµάτων τους. Και οι πολίτες θα ψηφίσουν, όχι µε το κριτήριο του ποιος είναι ο καλύτερος, αλλά ο λιγότερο κακός και επικίνδυνος.

Υπό τις συνθήκες αυτές και όπως έχουµε ήδη γράψει, δεν θα υποδείξουµε στους αναγνώστες µας ποιον να ψηφίσουν αφού, µάλιστα, δεν µας αρέσει ούτε η µια ούτε ο άλλος…
